Yemen / Attack in Sana
Statements made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Spokesperson (Paris - October 10, 2016)
France strongly condemns and expresses its profound shock at the attack in Sana on Saturday, October 8, which left more than 140 people dead and hundreds injured. It calls for an independent inquiry into this attack in order to identify the perpetrators.
It calls on all parties to the conflict to comply strictly with international humanitarian law and to refrain from any further attacks of this nature. This massacre again underscores the urgent need to find a political solution that will put an end to the war in Yemen.
France urges the parties to actively cooperate with Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who will be received by Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, tomorrow, Monday, October 10. This meeting will provide an opportunity to review the situation and explore ways to resolve the conflict as swiftly as possible.
