World performing Art Festival 2006
The 2006 edition of World Performing Arts Festival, organized since the past 17 years by Rafi Peer Theater Workshop, took place in Lahore from 09th to 20th November. This year more than 600 artists originating of more than 40 countries presented their creations within the original and unique framework of this festival and in all the artistic fields: music, dance, puppets, theatre and cinema.
The French participation took the shape of two puppet shows and three concerts of the trio Mamdouh Bahri.
The puppet show entitled “Transit” was the fruit of a Franco-German cultural project organized by the Alliance Française de Lahore and Annemarie Schimmel Haus in collaboration with the Museum of the Puppetry of Lahore and Rafi Peer Theater Workshop. Presented twice during the festival, this spectacle gained a huge success from the public and national and international media, who came to see the performances. The troop of puppeters then performed in Islamabad and Karachi where it met the same enthusiasm with its different public.
With the support of the Embassy of France and the network of the Alliance Françaises in Pakistan, the trio of jazz Mamdouh Bahri took part in 3 evening performances within the Festival in front of a gathering of more than 800 people each time. In particular, their performance at the opening night in the presence of President Musharraf was highly appriciated. The trio Mamdouh Bahri then carried out a national tour with the help of the network of the Alliance Françaises in Pakistan by performing in Islamabad and Karachi.
