Visit by the Ambassador of France to the reception centre of the NGO SACH
H.E. Mr. Régis de Belenet, Ambassador of France to Pakistan, visited the SACH shelters for street children and for the women victims of forced marriages. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Deputy Consul and the Humanitarian Attaché of the Embassy.
Mrs.Khalida Salimi, Director of SACH, briefed the Ambassador about the problems related to forced marriages in Pakistan and the help her NGO provides to young women in trouble. SACH welcomes these women in its centres and provides them psychological and legal help. In case of Pakistani young women with dual citizenship, SACH contacts the diplomatic representation of the concerned country in order to allow them to return to their country as soon as possible.
In addition SACH has launched an important media campaign (posters, itinerant theatres, and messages broadcasted at radio) with the help of British High Commission in order to alert the public opinion on this delicate subject.
The Ambassador also visited the dropping center and the shelter for street children of Rawalpindi. The children are provided with medical treatment as well as psychological help until a solution to their situation is found. SACH favours the reunification of families, but the solutions found are always in the children’s best interest. This programme of the NGO SACH is part of a project funded by the European Union to which France contributes through its share in the budget of the European Union.
