Two eminent scientists for the “French Science Tour in Pakistan”

In order to increase the scientific and
technical cooperation between France and Pakistan, the French Embassy in
Islamabad has set up in 2008 a new program : the French Science Tour in Pakistan
(FSTP). In this framework, several eminent scientists belonging to the best
research centers in France are invited in Pakistan to give some lectures in
selected universities and research institutes. FSTP gives them the opportunity
to interact with Pakistani students, faculty members, junior and senior
scientists.

In December 2009, two eminent scientists
visited Pakistan under FSTP : Dr. S V Kaveri, immunologist and Director of
Research at INSERM (the French national institute for health and medical
research) and Pr. M. Waldschmidt, mathematician at Pierre and Marie Curie
University in Paris and also Vice-President of the UNESCO school of mathematics
around the world (CIMPA -International Center of Pure and Applied Mathematics).

During their stays in Pakistan, they visited
and delivered lectures in many universities and research centres in Islamabad,
Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad. Thus, more than 500 scientists were able to
interact with them and the French Embassy hopes that, with its support
(fellowship programmes, grants for research projects threw the BIO-ASIA and STIC-ASIA
French regional programmes), those scientist will initiate new joint project
with the Pakistani teams.
