Summing up the Celebration of Francophonie in Lahore
In order to celebrate the popularity of the French language, for which festivities are being held internationally in the second last week of every month of March – The Alliance Française of Lahore organized a competition: “Tell me ten words that tell you” Thursday 22nd March, 2012.
For this event, the Alliance Française of Lahore collaborated with its official partners (by contract) and the majority of colleges, institutes and universities teaching French independently with their own head of French departments.
All the participants of the event gathered at Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD) in Johar Town, in the presence of our honorable guest, Mr. Mohamed Ismail Qureshi, Rector of National School of Public Policy.
During the two hours, the twelve different promoters of the French language in Lahore: Beacon House – The New School, Kinnaird College for Women, Aitchison College, The Alliance Française of Lahore Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD), University of Punjab, Learning Alliance Defence, Lahore Grammar School Defence, Lahore College For Women interpreted poems, sketches and plays and thus staged the proposed ten words.
To close the festivities, the event was followed by a performance of the “Theatre of Shadows of Toulouse”, financed by The Alliance Française of Lahore, lasting forty-five minutes, which gave the audience an amazing sight by bringing to light the fables of Jean de la Fontaine and traditional stories of French popular culture.
Finally, awards were given to the selected winners by a jury comprising French born citizens. The event definitely met some considerable success!
