Second phase of the French medical relief and assistance operations
Since their initial intervention in Pakistan, which started on October 9, the French teams have increased and broadened their medical relief and assistance operations. From October 14, to October 24, 2005, the French medical and surgical teams in Muzaffarabad have examined over 1650 patients and 112 surgical interventions were undertaken.
The total expenses incurred during the early stages of the operations amount to 3.9 million Euros.
Another French medical and surgical team arrived on October 22 as a partial relief of that already present on the Muzaffarabad sites.
The French logistic team present at Islamabad airport has unloaded so far a total of 189 tons from 21 aircrafts of the NATO air bridge ; apart from emergency supplies of all kinds, the consignments include a large number of tents.
A Joint Force Air Component Command, led by Lt. Col. Louis Guibert and including five French and three British officers, arrived last night at Islamabad.
