Paris 2015/COP21 : On Sunday, Laurent Fabius convened his team of 14 facilitators to ensure the success of COP21
As he had announced on Saturday 5 December at the COP plenary meeting, today Laurent Fabius convened the team of 14 facilitators responsible for helping him throughout this week in order to ensure a successful COP21.
Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet (Gabon), Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Jochen Flasbarth (Germany), State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, responsible for “implementation mechanisms” (financing, technologies and capacities);
Izabella Texeira (Brazil), Environment Minister and Vivian Balakrishnan (Singapore), Minister for Foreign Affairs, will be responsible for the theme of differentiation;
Tine Sundtoft (Norway), Minister of the Climate and Environment, and James Fletcher (Saint Lucia), Minister for Public Service, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology will be responsible for the theme of ambition;
Pa Ousman Jarju (Gambia), Minister of Environment and Amber Rudd (United Kingdom), Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, will be responsible for pre-2020 actions (excluding pre-2020 financing which will be covered in the implementation mechanisms).
Work on these first four themes will begin on Sunday afternoon.
In addition, the first informal consultations on the following themes will be initiated very soon by:
René Orellana (Bolivia), Minister for Environment and Åsa Romson (Sweden), Minister for Climate and the Environment, responsible for adaptation.
Manuel Pulgar Vidal (Peru), Minister of State for Environment and President of COP20, responsible for the preamble. He will also conduct a mission in conjunction with the civil society representatives on behalf of the COP21 President.
Catherine McKenna (Canada), Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Daniel Vicente Ortega Pacheco (Ecuador), Minister of Environment and Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber (United Arab Emirates), Minister of State, Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change, are also on the team of facilitators.
