NATO-Pakistan border incident: statement by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesman
(Paris, Monday 28 November 2011)
Daily press briefing by Bernard Valero, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesman
“Following the tragic and regrettable events that led to the death of at least 26 Pakistani soldiers during the night of November 25 to 26, we extend our condolences to the bereaved.
As the NATO Secretary General already stated, an inquiry by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has been ordered to establish the facts, determine who was responsible, and to learn the right lessons. We lend our full support to the swift completion of this inquiry.
We call for continued cooperation between the Pakistani government and the NATO forces engaged in the stabilization of Afghanistan. This cooperation is vital for peace in Afghanistan and is in our common interest.
We reaffirm our support to the Pakistani government in its fight against the Taliban insurgency and terrorism in all its forms.”
