Meeting of the France-Pakistan Security Commission in Paris
France and Pakistan held on Tuesday 27th of March in Paris the first meeting of the France-Pakistan Security Commission.
The meeting of the Commission is in line with the implementation of the joint Declaration on security cooperation between France and Pakistan, which was signed on the 5th of May 2011 on the occasion of the visit in Paris of Prime Minister Yousouf Raza Gilani.
The Commission, which is expected to meet periodically, offers a framework for discussions on fight against terrorism and shall allow exchanges of views and deepening of bilateral cooperation in that field. It is co-chaired by the French General Secretary of Defense and National Security and by the Pakistani Secretary Defense.
The first meeting in Paris gave the opportunity to high dignitaries of the French and Pakistani Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Interior Ministries for initial contact as well as presentations by the French and Pakistani delegations on respective visions of terrorism threats on their territories.
The meeting was held in the particular context of the Montauban and Toulouse killings of which the author, Mohammed Merah, is suspected to have visited the tribal zones of Pakistan. The Pakistani delegation assured the French delegation of its full and complete cooperation to the process of the inquiry.
