Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria – France’s contribution – Statement by Jean-Marc Ayrault
I welcome the announcement by President Hollande on June 26 of France’s continued contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria amounting to €1.08 billion over the next three years (2017-2019).
France is the second largest contributor to the Global Fund. This is a powerful sign of our commitment to combatting the major pandemics.
The fight against AIDS and communicable diseases all over the world is one of France’s priorities. In addition to our financial support for the fund (more than €3.8 billion since 2002), we are mobilizing our research institutions. We are also mobilized to support local health systems and the persons affected, including with respect to their fundamental rights. France pioneered the creation of innovative financing methods, particularly the tax on airline tickets and on financial transactions.
I hope that on September 16 in Montreal the Fund will achieve its goal of mobilizing $13 billion for the next three years in order to save 8 million lives and prevent 300 million new infections.
