France provides bullet-proof vests to NWFP police

(July 25, 2009)

In response to a request
from the Government of Pakistan expressed in the framework of the Group of
Friends of Democratic Pakistan, French Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Daniel
Jouanneau handed over to the Interior Minister, Mr. Rehman Malik, a sample of
the bullet-proof vests the NWFP police received on Saturday. This initiative
started during M. Malik Naveed Khan, IGP NWFP, first visit to Paris in March
2009 when he met with M. Frederic Pechenard, the Chief of the French Police

This gesture comes as one
example of France’s will to support Pakistan’s commitment to our common goal :
the fight against terrorism. Under the impulse of the Pakistani government, this
struggle is fought by the army, the security agencies, but also increasingly by
the police. France truly acknowledges and pays tribute to the dedication of the
Pakistani police force who are on the frontline of this battle.

This hand-over ceremony took
place four days after Rehman Malik’s visit to Paris after which the French
Government decided to significantly increase the budget of its partnership with
the security and law enforcement agencies in Pakistan/
