France-Pakistan cooperation in higher education

“In 2006, 147 Pakistani students will travel to France to obtain their PhD in French universities. This confirms the growing interest of Pakistani students in French higher education : since 2000, their numbers have constantly increased.

This year, most of the students have a background in the following disciplines : Engineering and Technology, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Business Education, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.

Every year the quality of the candidates is increasing with the rising popularity of this programme. The students mostly come from the top Pakistani Engineering Universities: UET, COMSATS, NUST, GIKIEST, NED, Punjab University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad and others.

Students are supported by:

- the French Embassy which funds French language classes in Pakistan and France,

- the French government which grants them free tuition in the French universities

the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan which provides them with fully funded PhD scholarships.
