Ethiopia,Tanzania, and Kenya – Visit by Annick Girardin (April 6-7, 2015)
Annick Girardin, minister of state for development and Francophonie, is visiting Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Kenya this week in preparation for December’s Paris Climate Conference.
In each of these countries, Ms. Girardin is meeting with local authorities and representatives of civil society, NGOs, companies, and local government. She and her interlocutors will also review national contributions, preparations for the Addis Ababa conference on development financing in July, the sharing of sustainable development technologies, and will inspect South African solutions for confronting climate change.
In Ethiopia, a country that is implementing a very ambitious strategy by establishing an objective of strong growth without increased emissions, Ms. Girardin visited the Ashegoda wind farm, sub-Saharan Africa’s largest, which is financed by the French Development Agency. With Ethiopian environment minister Belete Tafere, she opened the “En Route to Paris” conference. She also addressed the Student Climate Forum in Addis Ababa and met with Erastus Mwencha, vice president of the African Union commission.
