Environment – Climate – 20th International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer (September 16, 2015)
On the occasion of the 20th International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, France welcomes the concrete results of the Montreal Protocol, which should make it possible to achieve the goal of rebuilding the ozone layer by 2050. 98% of the substances identified by the protocol have been eliminated since it entered into effect.
Twenty-eight years to the day after the signing of the protocol, these results reflect the effectiveness of multilateral mobilization within the framework of the United Nations, when it is based on sound scientific knowledge and adequate means of implementation.
This success provides an incentive to increase our efforts as we prepare for the Paris Climate Conference.
