Dinner at the French Residence in honour of the Pakistan-France Friendship Group of the National Assembly

In the context of the strong relations between France and Pakistan, the French Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Regis de Belenet, hosted a working dinner at the Residence of France on Monday December 4, 2006 in honour of the Pakistan-France Friendship Group of the National Assembly of Pakistan.
The Speaker of the National Assembly and President of the Pakistan-France Friendship group, Chaudhry Amir Hussain, a large number of Parliamentarians members of this group, the Additional Secretary for Europe, the Director General of the Foreign Minister’s Office and the Director General for Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with some media representatives and diplomats of the French Embassy attended the dinner.
Welcoming and thanking the guests, the Ambassador highlighted the bilateral cooperation and emphasized the important role of the Friendship Group in the promotion of relations between the two countries. The attendees discussed four main topics during the evening: assessment and opportunities of the bilateral trade, overview of the education cooperation (particularly the creation of an engineering university in Karachi with French participation), issuance of visas and the implementation of the new biometric visas system, and bilateral defence cooperation. French diplomats made a detailed PowerPoint briefing on these key issues and, along with the Ambassador, answered many questions from guests.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain thanked the French Ambassador for his invitation of the Friendship Group and underscored the need for even more contacts between officials of both countries. Furthermore the President of the Friendship Group extended a warm invitation to the France-Pakistan Friendship Group of the French National Assembly to visit Pakistan.
