Conferment of prestigious French Medal “Officer of the Legion of Honor” upon Mrs. Asma Jahangir

Mr. Philippe Thiebaud, Ambassador of France to Pakistan, conferred the insignia of Officer of the Legion of Honor upon Mrs. Asma Jahangir on behalf of the President of the French Republic, on September 30, 2014 at the French Residence in Islamabad.
Renowned lawyer and founding member of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Mrs. Asma Jahangir has dedicated her life to defending the rights of religious minorities, women and children, in Pakistan and abroad. A committed lawyer, she has always advocated respect for the constitutional law in her country and promoted interreligious and intercultural dialogue in a spirit of tolerance and mutual understanding.
With this award, France pays tribute to her courageous commitment to the defense of human rights, to her continued support to the abolition of death penalty and to her exceptional contribution to the development of a universal culture of human rights, in particular as a UN Special Rapporteur for the Human Rights Council.
